Snow Shoeing in the Rockies

I think we both can say we feel very fortunate to be living along the front range of the Rockies. The amount of exploring that can be done is overwhelming and exciting! A few weeks ago we had plans to go ice skating up at Evergreen lake but it was so freezing (maybe 5 degrees) that for some reason we though snow shoeing would be warmer? It actually worked out well. We invited our friends Anneli and Gary, rented some snow shoes in town, whipped up some hot chocolate in a thermas, threw June in the back of the car (with her new hiking pack on...forcing her to carry her own crap, its only fair), and off we went. Past the small town of Eldora is apparently the spot to go since it was packed. People snow shoeing and cross country skiing galore! It is really fun to be in the middle of such an outdoorsie community. I am constantly amazed and how athletic and willing people are to go just about anything here. The trail we took goes up to a lake (Lost Lake). We didn't quite make it up to the lake to avoid walking back in the dark but we made it up high enough to see a beautiful view of Boulder Canyon. June did great in the snow until the snow berries freezing on her feet were bothering her. Usually she does fine in the snow but those little snow ice balls were one too many for her to not ignore.

The beautiful Rockies

The whole gang! Glad these guys like to go on adventures with us!

I love being outside, especially during the winter. I love the aspens and the fresh snow and the clean, clear air. Its rejuvenating and was much needed!
